Much on the cards of law enforcement agencies after having a credible information, Rangers' on Friday night arrested former PPP Senator Faisal Raza Abidi over his alleged involvement in killing two members of Tablighi Jamaat in Patel Paara the other day. Police has confirmed the arrest of Abidi and an FIR (379/2016) for the double murder was registered at Jamshed Quarters police station under Section 302 (murder) and 7-ATA (anti-terrorism act of 1997) on complaint of the victims' relative Ghulam Mohammed.
Police and Rangers detained Abidi in a joint action at his residence located at New Rizvia Housing Society and shifted him to some undisclosed location for investigation. The law enforcement agencies also claimed to have confiscated heavy weapons from the ex-Senator's house. He is expected to be presented before court on Sunday. Pasban-e-Aza has condemned Abidi's detention and said that Pakistan People's Party (PPP) is exacting revenge for leaving the party.
Raza Abidi was once considered the most trusted aide of former President Asif Ali Zardari. Abidi resigned from Senate in 2014 while he had also left the presidency of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Karachi in 2012 due to differences with the party leadership. Law enforcement agencies will investigate different target killing incidents from Raza Abidi.
