ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Thursday approved Rs 4 million through supplementary grant during current fiscal year for payment of compensation to the family of a teenager who lost his life while saving tourists' lives, following the collapse of a bridge in District Neelum, and reward for another youngster who risked his own life to save the victims.
According to a PM Office statement, the prime minister approved immediate provision of Rs. 3 million to the parents of Saim Shafaat, son of Shafaat Hussain, and Rs. 1 million as reward to Mukhtiar son of Zeetullah in recognition of sacrifice and heroic efforts made during the unfortunate incident of bridge collapse in Kundal Shai area of Azad Jammu and Kashmir on May 13, 2018.
Saim Shafat, aged 12 years, sacrificed his life while making a heroic effort to warn tourists of the imminent collapse of the bridge. Mukhtiar, son of Zeetullah risked his life to save two tourists from drowning during the same incident.
The prime minister has directed the finance division to immediately transfer the amount of Rs. 4 million as supplementary grant to the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir for onward payment to the nominees.
The chief secretary to AJK Government would be responsible for submitting to the finance division the record of the payments to the nominees.
