Five Lieutenant Generals of Pakistan army, including Director General ISI, will retire this year on the completion of their service. According to sources, the DG ISI Lieutenant General Zaheerul Islam will retire in October, 2014. He was appointed DG ISI on 19th March, 2012 following the retirement of Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha.
Others to retire in October, 2014 are Corps Commander Mangla Lieutenant General Tariq Khan, Corps Commander Gujranwala Lieutenant General Saleem Nawaz, Corps Commander Peshawar Lieutenant General Khalid Rabbani and Corps Commander Karachi Lieutenant General Sajjad Ghani. There is no tradition of giving extension in Pakistan army except in extraordinary cases. In the recent past only the then DG ISI, Lieutenant General Ahmad Shuja Pasha and the then CoAS General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani had been given extensions. However, the then President and CoAS General Pervez Musharraf enjoyed self granted extensions as well.
