LAHORE: The Punjab police are actively engaged across the province in ensuring best public service delivery and enforcement of traffic laws. In continuation of these efforts, more than 4.33 million driving licenses have been issued to citizens during the current year.
The police said that more than 4.939 million traffic challans were issued for violations of traffic laws, while fines exceeding Rs. 9.75 billion were imposed. The spokesperson further said that challans were issued to 44,151 smoke-emitting vehicles, 6,785 vehicles were impounded at police stations, while the fitness certificates of 28 vehicles were also confiscated.
Inspector General of Police Punjab, Abdul Kareem, has directed that operations against traffic law violators should continue without interruption and that the implementation of amended traffic laws, reforms and modern systems must be ensured at all costs. He said that the crackdown should continue against individuals involved in overloading, over speeding, underage driving, one-way violations and other dangerous traffic offences.
The IG Punjab directed that the strictest action should be taken without discrimination against traffic law violators and that effective measures should be adopted to recover outstanding traffic fines from defaulters. He said that SHOs and SDPOs should ensure coordinated measures to eliminate traffic congestion and prevent road accidents so that citizens can be provided with safe and well-organized travel facilities.
