SIALKOT: Government College Women University Sialkot (GCWUS) on Saturday organized a series of awareness and capacity-building activities to mark the ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’, aiming to raise awareness about substance abuse and promote mental well-being among students.

According to a university spokesperson, a seminar titled Building Resilience among Young Adults as a Source to Combat Drug Abuse was held at the Fatima Jinnah Campus, where Dr. Nimrah Ishfaq highlighted the psychological and social challenges faced by young adults and stressed the importance of resilience and healthy coping strategies in preventing drug abuse. Students from the departments of Psychology, Fine Arts, Sociology, Criminology and Education attended the session.

A workshop titled Develop Self-Awareness and Psychological Resources among Female Students: A Need of the Hour was also organised at the Imam Bibi Campus.

Conducted by Dr. Moazama Batool and Dr. Nimrah Ishfaq, the workshop focused on self-awareness, psychological resilience and capacity building as preventive measures against substance abuse. Students from various departments participated in interactive discussions and shared their views on promoting mental well-being.

The event concluded with participants writing messages on the “Wall of Hope”, an initiative supervised by Dr. Moazama Batool, convener of the university’s Anti-Drug and Tobacco Committee, encouraging students to adopt healthy lifestyles and avoid self-destructive behaviors.

As part of the awareness campaign, the committee also displayed standard operating procedures (SoPs) and awareness posters across the campus to educate students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and reinforce compliance with the Higher Education Commission’s anti-drug policy.
