Laptops distributed at Metropolitan University: Sindh Governor urges young to embrace modern technology

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Syed Muhammad Nihal Hashmi on Saturday urged young Pakistanis to embrace modern technology, education and professional skills to compete in an increasingly digital world.

He was speaking at a laptop distribution ceremony at Karachi Metropolitan University - where hundreds of students received laptops under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme.

Hashmi said technological advancements were rapidly reshaping medicine and other sectors making digital literacy and technical expertise essential for future success.

“Without adapting to modern technology and digital systems, quality healthcare and professional growth are not possible.”

The Governor described medicine as a noble profession that goes beyond treating patients and includes leadership, social responsibility and service to humanity.

“Doctors should promote social awareness and a spirit of public service alongside their professional responsibilities,” he said, adding that the objective of becoming a doctor should be serving society rather than pursuing financial gain alone.

Hashmi encouraged students to continue their higher education, embrace research and innovation, and maintain a lasting connection with their alma mater throughout their professional lives.

He also lauded the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, saying it was providing young people with tangible opportunities, guidance and pathways for advancement.

Prime Minister’s Youth Programme -Sindh, Coordinator Dr Fahad Shafiq said till date 20,000 laptops had been distributed among students at universities across Sindh.

He said the government planned to expand the initiative by increasing annual laptop distribution to 200,000 units next year to strengthen digital inclusion and educational opportunities for youth. Digital laboratories and business incubators were being established at universities to promote entrepreneurship, while startups would have access to financial assistance of up to Rs20 million.

KMU’s Vice Chancellor Dr Waseem Qazi briefed participants on the university’s academic environment and modern facilities, saying work on several educational and infrastructure development projects was progressing rapidly.

He said special measures were also being taken to enhance students’ professional capabilities and practical skills to better prepare them for the job market.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Sindh Social Media President Khurram Abbas Bhatti also spoke.
