KARACHI: Sindh Food Minister Makhdoom Mehboob-uz- Zaman has taken notice reports about increases in flour and bread prices, directing authorities to immediately investigate market prices of these two essential items and take action against profiteering.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Minister instructed the Sindh Food Department and district administrations to submit a detailed report on flour prices, wheat stocks, supply chain conditions, and any evidence of hoarding or artificial shortages.
He warned that the government would not tolerate unjustified increases in the prices of wheat, flour, or bread, stressing that strict action would be taken against individuals or groups found involved in profiteering or creating market instability.
“The creation of artificial shortages and manipulation of prices will not be allowed under any circumstances.”
Mehboob-uz-Zaman noted that Sindh had harvested a bumper wheat crop this year and said there was no legitimate reason for panic or supply concerns in the market. He assured the public that the provincial government was closely monitoring the situation and would ensure the continued availability of wheat and flour at affordable prices.
The minister also directed Food Department officials to maintain close coordination with flour mill owners, district administrations, and market committees to ensure uninterrupted supply and price stability throughout the province.
He reiterated that protecting consumers from exploitation remained a top priority of the Sindh government and pledged that authorities would take all necessary measures to curb hoarding and profiteering.
