PESHAWAR: The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to allocate billions of rupees in budget of the next fiscal year to improve the electricity supply system in the merged tribal districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The purpose is to bring these areas into the mainstream and new employment opportunities can be created by branching out industrial and tourism development.

In this regard, a special meeting was held under the chairmanship of Secretary Energy and Power Nisar Ahmed with the Chairman Board of Tribal Area Electric Supply Company (TESCO) Engineer Naeem Khan, Chief Executive Officer, TESCO Engineer Tahir Jamal and senior officers of Department also present.

The meeting discussed in detail the progress of development projects being implemented from the provincial government funds for the improvement of the electricity transmission system in tribal areas of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FRs) including the tribal districts of KP namely Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Waziristan and the allocation of funds for the proposed development projects in the budget for next fiscal year.

It was agreed by the Chairman TESCO Board Engineer Naeem Khan to allocate funds of Rs 300 million for new schemes for the improvement of electricity network in merged districts for the next fiscal year.

In the meeting, Secretary Energy and Power Nisar Ahmed expressed concerned over the precarious law and order situation in the tribal areas and expressed satisfaction over the achievement of encouraging recovery targets for billing payments by the TESCO administration and assured the cooperation of the Energy and Power Department.
