ISLAMABAD: Over 1,300 fresh engineering graduates have officially joined the Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) Placement Programme’s second batch, marking a significant step in Pakistan Engineering Council’s (PEC) mission to enhance practical skills among young engineers.
A total of 1,700 graduates were selected through a transparent digital balloting process conducted at the end of March. PEC’s initiative aims at providing these graduates with industry-specific experience, a vital step in their transition from academics to the professional world. The remaining seats will be filled further through digital balloting.
The selected graduates were welcomed into their respective organisations by senior officials, who facilitated their orientation sessions and completion of necessary reporting formalities. This marks the beginning of their hands-on training, with placements spanning across various departments of over 60 public and private sector employers. These partnerships, involving both governmental and non-governmental organizations, ensure that the engineers gain exposure to a diverse range of industries.
The placement programme includes a broad range of employers, including all provincial governments, including Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir, as well as leading public and private-sector organizations. These employers have committed to providing the graduates with industry exposure through practical, real-world projects. A total of 300 seats were exclusively allocated to engineering graduates from Balochistan, and all have been filled, enabling young engineers from the province to participate in the program. While 1,300 engineers have already begun their training, the remaining engineers are currently completing their reporting formalities and will soon be placed.
Chairman PEC Engr Waseem Nazir expressed his satisfaction over the successful launch of the second batch, highlighting the merit-based selection system that ensured fairness and transparency in the process. He emphasized that this programme will not only provide engineers with hands-on industry experience but also enhance their soft skills, making them well-rounded professionals. “By offering training opportunities in real-world environments, we are helping these young engineers develop both technical and interpersonal skills that will contribute to the advancement of Pakistan’s engineering sector,” Engr Waseem Nazir remarked.
The GET Programme is structured to offer six months of intensive training, which includes five months of field experience and one month dedicated to skill development. Graduates are provided with a monthly stipend of PKR 50,000, and upon successful completion of the program, they receive a certificate verified with a QR code. This initiative, fully funded by PEC, is expected to empower young engineers, bolster Pakistan’s engineering sector, and contribute to the nation’s long-term development goals.
