PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Muhammad Sohail Afridi has instructed that the pace of work on provincial motorway and expressway projects be expedited, reiterating that practical measures are already underway for the establishment of an integrated road network across the province.

He issued these instructions while chairing an important meeting of the Communication and Works Department at the Chief Minister’s House, Peshawar, during which a detailed review was undertaken of ongoing and proposed development projects relating to roads and other infrastructure across the province.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed the relevant authorities to propose, for inclusion in the forthcoming Annual Development Programme, a dedicated road infrastructure scheme aimed at improving interconnectivity among the merged tribal districts.

He stated that enhanced connectivity would facilitate ease of movement, accelerate socio economic development, and promote greater regional integration in these areas.

He emphasized that robust infrastructure serves as the foundation of sustainable economic growth and stated that the government is committed to delivering modern, high quality transport infrastructure to provide improved travel facilities to the public.

The Chief Minister also directed that all newly constructed roads must be equipped with proper lane markings and cat eyes to ensure compliance with road safety standards and to enhance traffic safety measures.

Furthermore, stressing the importance of timely project delivery, the Chief Minister instructed that all ongoing development schemes be completed strictly in accordance with prescribed timelines, making it clear that delays in execution will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

He noted that the timely completion of development projects is essential to ensuring tangible relief and service delivery for the public.

The Chief Minister further underscored that no compromise will be made on merit or quality standards in the execution of public sector development projects.

The meeting was also given a comprehensive briefing on the overall development portfolio of the Communication and Works Department, including progress on ongoing schemes, release of funds, and expenditure status.

Secretary Communi-cation and Works, along with heads of subordinate entities operating under the department also attended the meeting.
