ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Thursday that he had spoken with French President Emmanuel Macron, who congratulated Pakistan on its efforts to help secure a ceasefire between Iran and the United States and bring the two sides to the negotiating table.

In a post on X, Sharif said he appreciated Macron’s “kind words” and his wishes for the success of upcoming peace talks expected to be held in Islamabad.

Sharif added that Pakistan would continue working with partners, including France, to ensure the opportunity led to a “durable and lasting peace”.

Separately, Sharif held a telephone call with Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain, during which he praised Bahrain’s “exemplary restraint” in response to recent Iranian attacks, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

The statement said Sharif thanked the Bahraini king for supporting Pakistan’s peace efforts and offered condolences over the loss of lives in Bahrain during recent hostilities, as well as prayers for the recovery of the injured.
