It is indeed a matter of grave concern for every Pakistani that the Pakistanis are among those who were injured in a missile strike on the UAE yesterday. It has been reported by media that several people, including Pakistanis, were injured by falling shrapnel in the Khor Fakkan after air defences intercepted missile and drone attacks. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his deep concern over the incident, describing the two countries as “brotherly nations.”
There are approximately 1.8 million Pakistanis living in the UAE, making them the second-largest expatriate group in the country. A large number of them have been living in the UAE for several decades. The Pakistani expatriates have played a key role in the development and progress of the UAE. That the Pakistanis in the UAE are stoutly standing with this Arab country amid the ongoing Middle East conflict is a fact. It was, for example, on last Sunday that many prominent figures from the Pakistani social and business community in Dubai and Sharjah at a gathering emphasised the deep-rooted ties between the two nations and described the UAE, according to Khaleej Times newspaper, “as first home for new generations of expatriates”.
