LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has made a significant progress towards modernizing its power distribution system by initiating the implementation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) smart meters, aimed at providing consumers with improved, transparent, and technology-driven services.

According to LESCO authorities, in line with the adoption of modern technology, conventional static meters are now being replaced with single-phase AMI smart meters, priced at Rs 11,665 per meter.

Official details reveal, during the fiscal year 2024–25, single-phase static meters were being procured at an approximate cost of Rs. 4,500 per unit.

The LESCO officials said that a direct comparison between the two types of meters is not appropriate due to significant differences in technology and functionality.

Previously, consumers were purchasing AMI smart meters privately at prices exceeding Rs. 20,000. Through a transparent and competitive tendering process, LESCO has successfully reduced the cost to Rs. 11,665 per meter, marking a major relief for consumers, the officials added.

The package offered by LESCO includes the base meter cost of Rs. 11,665 along with up to 10 meters of service cable. The total cost of the package is estimated at approximately Rs. 17,700. In cases where the required cable length exceeds 10 meters, additional charges will be applied based on actual costs.
