ISLAMABAD: MOL Pakistan Oil and Gas Company B V, the operator of the Tal Block, has announced the successful appraisal of existing discovered gas and condensate (in traces) from the Lumshiwal Formation in the Bilitang-1 ST-1 exploratory well, located in District Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The well is tested at a rate of 26.5 MMSCFD of natural gas.

The Tal Joint Venture comprises Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), and MOL Pakistan.

The well was spudded on August 10, 2025, and later sidetracked to target improved reservoir quality. It was successfully drilled to a total depth of 4,004 meters TVD. Based on the interpretation of wireline log data, the Lumshiwal Formation was tested at approximately 26.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas (~5,065 BOEPD) at a choke size of 32/64” and a wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 4,214 psi.

Ali Murtaza Abbas, Regional Vice President Middle East, Africa & Pakistan, MOL Group, congratulated MOL Pakistan on the achievement, stating, “This success was made possible through a high degree of technical innovation and timely decision-making by the joint venture partners.” He also thanked the Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Mr. Ali Pervaiz Malik, for his continued support.

This appraisal of an existing discovery has de-risked further exploration in the Tal Block, unlocking new upside opportunities. The discovery will also contribute to enhancing the country’s energy security through indigenous resources while adding to the hydrocarbon reserves base of MOL, its joint venture partners, and Pakistan.
