ISLAMABAD: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Wednesday reaffirmed his country’s commitment to regional stability, emphasising that Iran has no intention of becoming involved in conflicts with neighbouring nations.
During a telephone conversation initiated by President Pezeshkian with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the two leaders discussed the current situation in the region.
According to reports, Pezeshkian cautioned that a failure by the international community to hold those responsible for conflicts accountable could pose serious threats to global security. “If the international community does not focus on those responsible for war, the global system and security could face serious challenges,” he reportedly said.
The Iranian president stressed that Tehran had no plans to engage in hostilities with other regional powers, signalling a cautious approach amid escalating tensions.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, for his part, expressed concern over recent developments and emphasised Pakistan’s commitment to diplomacy as the path to peace and stability.
“In the current circumstances, all parties should demonstrate restraint and responsibility to prevent further deterioration of the situation,” he said.
PM Sharif also highlighted the historical, religious, and cultural ties between Pakistan and Iran, underscoring Islamabad’s desire to deepen bilateral cooperation. Both leaders agreed that continued communication and consultation were essential to advance shared goals of peace, stability, and development. They also pledged to expand cooperation across multiple sectors and maintain high-level contacts. Pezeshkian reportedly affirmed Iran’s interest in strengthening relations with Pakistan and reiterated Tehran’s position on recent regional developments, signalling a mutual commitment to dialogue amid geopolitical uncertainty.
The conversation comes shortly after Prime Minister Sharif sent a letter to Iran’s newly elected Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, offering condolences on the martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei and extending the sympathies of the Pakistani people to the Iranian nation and the broader Muslim Ummah.
As of the filing of this report, Prime Minister’s Office had not released an official statement on the call.
