ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday issued notices to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and other relevant authorities on a petition filed against open manholes in the federal capital.
A single bench of Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar heard the petition, which was filed by a citizen, Mughal Din, through his counsel Malik Zaheer Advocate. The court directed the respondents to submit their replies in the matter.
In his written order, Justice Dogar stated that the petitioner has highlighted an important public-interest matter concerning the safety of citizens in Islamabad. According to the petitioner, many manholes in various sectors of the federal capital are not covered.
The court order said that it was alleged by the petitioner that open, broken, and uncovered manholes in different sectors of the Federal Capital pose a grave risk of accidents, serious injuries, and even loss of life.
The petitioner’s counsel contended that the respondents are legally bound to keep public roads and pathways safe and free from such dangers.
The IHC judge observed that the points raised needed consideration and ordered to issue notices to the respondents with the direction to submit a report and para-wise comments to reach this Court within a fortnight.
After issuing the directions, the IHC bench deferred hearing until March 30 for further proceedings.
Separately, Uzma Khan, the sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan, filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court, requesting that the jailed former PM be transferred to a hospital for medical treatment and granted access during his care. It further demanded that immediate and timely information regarding his health be provided.
The petition also called for arrangements to be made for the founder to undergo medical examination by doctors of his choice. Specifically, it requested that Dr Khurram Mirza, Dr Asim Yousaf, Dr Faisal Sultan, and Dr Samina Niazi be included in the medical team.
Additionally, the petition asked for blood tests to be conducted on the founder of PTI and for him to be shifted to Shifa International Hospital for treatment. It further requested that doctors, family members, and lawyers be granted continuous access to the founder of PTI during his detention and treatment. It also sought complete medical reports, including blood tests, eye tests, and diagnostic reports from the last three months, to be provided.
