KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah visited NIPA Chowrangi Tuesday evening to review the progress of the K-IV Augmentation Project and the Karachi Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Red Line Project, directing authorities to accelerate work and resolve bottlenecks affecting traffic flow.

The CM was accompanied by Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Irrigation Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Chairman P&D Najam Shah and others.

During the visit, the CM expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of work on the K-IV Augmentation scheme and instructed the relevant authorities to expedite construction. He noted that the K-IV Augmentation project spans over 2.7 kilometres and is vital for improving water supply to the city.

Shah directed the administration and police to assist the Water Board in ensuring the timely completion of the project and to remove hurdles causing delays.

He also ordered immediate measures to address traffic congestion and other civic issues arising from ongoing development works.

The CM also inspected cleanliness conditions, drainage arrangements, and traffic management in the area and directed the local government department to ensure proper sweeping in the city.

On the way, Murad Ali Shah undertook a

detailed review of the BRT Red Line project, inspecting ongoing construction activities at various locations.

He was informed that following the Sindh Cabinet’s approval of a provisional payment of Rs 4.8 billion to address critical contractor claims, the pace of work has significantly improved. The Chief Minister directed contractors to ensure the completion of mixed traffic lanes by May 2026. He also directed the early completion of the mixed traffic lane from Hasan Square to Jail Chowrangi.

The CM instructed authorities to further expedite work on the mixed traffic lane from Tank Chowk to Safoora and reviewed progress on the King Cottage Flyover and Hydrant Underpass.

The CM reviewed construction of the Malir Halt Depot, which commenced on January 15, 2026, with a completion target of January 2027. He was informed that the cabinet had already approved funding for the Malir Halt Depot access road.

He also inspected the 18-acre former Aladdin Park land leased for depot construction, where development activities have formally begun. Construction work on both depots is now under way.
