KARACHI: Rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms is expected in Karachi and several other parts of Sindh on February 17, as a shallow westerly wave is likely to approach western regions of the country from February 16 evening, according to the Met Office said on Saturday.
The Met said that under the influence of this weather system, light to moderate rain with wind and thunderstorms is expected across large parts of Balochistan from the evening or night of February 16 through February 17, with occasional breaks.
Areas likely to be affected include Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Chaghi, Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Noshki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Mustung, Barkhan, Sibbi, Loralai, Khuzdar, Kech, Turbat, Panjgur, Gwadar, Awaran, Kharan, Pasni, Ormara and Lasbela.
In Sindh, light to moderate rain accompanied by gusty or dust-raising winds is expected in Dadu, Hyderabad, Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad and Khairpur on February 17.
Similar weather conditions may also prevail in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Waziristan, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan and Kurram, during the night of February 16 and on February 17.
The Met further forecast light rain or drizzle at isolated places in Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Bahawalpur and adjoining areas on February 17, accompanied by gusty and dust-raising winds.
A hailstorm is also likely at isolated locations in northern Balochistan as well as in Dera Ismail Khan and Dera Ghazi Khan during the forecast period.
Advising caution, the Met Office urged farmers to make necessary arrangements to protect their crops in view of the expected weather conditions.
