ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Uzbekistan on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fight against corruption.

The MoU was signed between the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Anti-Corruption Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan (ACAU) during the two-day official visit of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, according to an official statement issued here.

The agreement reflects the shared commitment of both countries to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).

The MoU was signed by Deputy Chairman NAB Sohail Nasir and Abdulaziz Kamilov, Advisor to the President on Foreign Policy, Uzbekistan. The signed agreement provides a comprehensive framework for institutional coordination, cooperation, and capacity building to prevent and combat corruption within the respective competencies of both agencies.

It says that the cooperation includes information sharing with respect to trendy typologies and general methods of corrupt practices of both countries. It also commits to the provision of technical and methodological assistance in addition to exchange of expertise and human resource personnel in areas like forensic, accounting assets investigation, forensic engineering & money laundering. Capacity building and public awareness campaigns are also a major part of the cooperation, it says
