Winter rain accompanied by gusty winds hits parts of Karachi
- Jamshoro, Thatta, Badin, Tharparkar, Hyderabad, other Sindh's districts to also experience precipitation
Karachi’s dry spell finally broke as a fresh westerly wave made its presence felt, bringing a mix of gusty winds and winter showers to various parts of the metropolitan city on Thursday.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) earlier said Karachi was expected to experience dust-thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall on Thursday, under the influence of a fresh westerly wave.
The new weather system is set to grip Sindh, bringing a much-anticipated change in weather to the port city and many other districts.
The Met Office said that apart from Karachi, the weather pattern will also extend across other districts, including Jamshoro, Dadu, Thatta, Badin, Tharparkar, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Larkana and Shikarpur.
Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)’s National Emergencies Operation Centre has also issued a rain alert for several areas across Sindh, Punjab, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Heavy rainfall is expected in most districts of Punjab over the next 24 to 48 hours. Rain is likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and adjacent areas, while snowfall is expected in Murree and surrounding hilly regions.
Most districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are expected to receive rain, with snowfall likely in upper areas including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Naran, Kaghan and Galyat. Due to rain and snowfall, there is a risk of slippery roads and disruptions to traffic flow, the NDMA said, advising the public to avoid unnecessary travel during the rain and snow and to take precautionary measures.
