KARACHI: The President of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), Muhammad Ikram Rajput, and Acting Patron-in-Chief Zubair Chhaya have welcomed the relief measures announced by the Chief Minister of Sindh for those affected by the Gul Plaza tragedy, terming the initiative timely and commendable.

KATI leaders said that prompt government support is essential for the immediate relief and rehabilitation of affected families.

They added that the business community appreciates the Sindh Chief Minister’s decision to announce financial compensation of Rs 10 million per deceased individual, along with measures aimed at helping traders and businesses resume operations.

Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident, Muhammad Ikram Rajput and Zubair Chhaya emphasized the urgent need to strengthen and effectively implement fire and safety systems in all buildings, particularly in industrial and commercial areas.

They stressed that strict enforcement of fire safety laws, regular safety audits, and strong coordination among relevant institutions are critical to preventing such incidents in the future.

KATI also called for institutionalizing fire and safety awareness programs, training sessions, and emergency response drills to enhance preparedness and minimize risks going forward.

The association further urged effective implementation of KMC fire safety audit reports to ensure long-term safety improvements across the city.

The KATI leadership paid tribute to the fire fighter who lost his life during the rescue operation, describing him as a national hero.

They endorsed the President of Pakistan’s decision to confer a high civil award in recognition of his bravery and sacrifice, stating that such courageous individuals deserve national honour and remembrance.

KATI offered prayers for the departed souls of those who lost their lives in the Gul Plaza incident, expressed solidarity with their families, and conveyed best wishes for the swift and complete recovery of the injured.
