ISLAMABAD: Armed robbers and snatchers looted cash and valuables and stole or snatched motorcycles and cars worth millions of rupees in more than 58 incidents of robbery, dacoity, snatching, and carjacking reported to various police stations in the capital city during the past week.

According to data gathered by Business Recorder armed robbers stole or snatched 30 motorcycle thefts, three car, eight robberies, and 14 street crime incidents involving the snatching of cash and mobile phones. The incidents were reported at various police stations across the city.

During the period under review, criminal activity remained particularly high within the jurisdictions of Industrial Area, Aabpara, Karachi Company, Shalimar, Tarnol and Koral police stations. One of the most shocking incidents of the week was reported to Industrial Area, where a senior lawyer namely Sheikh Abdul Rauf was shot dead. The dead body of the deceased lawyer was spotted by a passerby in sector H-9 Islamabad. Police upon getting information rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for legal formalities. A bullet wound was found at the backside of the body police said.

Police later claimed the arrest of a person who allegedly killed the lawyer; produced the accused Wajid Khan as suspect involved in the murder of lawyer Sheikh Rauf in Islamabad; has been arrested by police.

Islamabad Police produced the accused before Judicial Magistrate Mian Azhar Nadeem under strict security for obtaining his physical remand.

According to police, the accused, Wajid Khan, belongs to Malakand Agency and was arrested a day ago. During the hearing, police argued that police required the remand to recover the vehicle used in the crime and to conduct further investigation from the accused.

Accepting the police plea, the court granted a five-day physical remand of the accused.

In the same period, auto thieves stole five motorbikes and one car, one person murdered, as well as robbers struck at two different places in the jurisdiction of Industrial Area Police Station. Two cases of robberies, one case of street crime and four cases of auto theft were reported to Shalimar Police Station and auto thieves stole three motorbikes and robbers struck at the three places Karachi Company Police Station.

Additionally, auto thieves stole three motorbikes and armed robbers struck at two locations within the limits of Tarnol, and three cases of auto theft and one case of street crime reported to Koral Police Station.
