“So you say tomato the American way and I say it the English way.”
“Whatever prompted that!”
“The government says it is willing to talk, and the opposition says only after a meeting with the Man Who Must Remain Nameless and Faceless.”
“But….”
“The Rana says, let them try their luck on 8 February, and if they cannot muster the numbers for their march…”
“The Rana is in my very bad books.”
“Because he reckons the Opposition will not be able to muster the numbers necessary…”
“Nope.”
“Because he dealt with narcotics?”
“OK, OK, I agree that was an inane charge that I ever heard. I am from Lahore and I did hear of the Rana’s involvement in shall we say other matters…why are you laughing?”
“Because it was the guy who came up with the charge was heading the Narcotics Division at the time, I mean he couldn’t blame him for, I don’t know, someone engaged in…in money laundering…”
“Hmmmm, anyway, I am not going to support The Rana next time?”
“I am, he is one of the few who reportedly refused to, how shall I put it, embrace victory at the polls on 8 February…”
“My reason is that he had two gates constructed in the Blue Area – one near each of the two five-star hotels in Islamabad and they have been shut for now more than two months.”
“He is not the Interior Minister – he cannot have them opened or shut anymore. The relevant man has the other hat on these days, the Chairman of the PCB hat, and…”
“But my petrol consumption has gone up, as has the consumption of all the bureaucrats who work for the federal government…”
“Don’t worry about them – their pay and emoluments are covering all that.”
“At the taxpayers’ expense?”
“Hey stupid, they are working for the people day and night and night and day and…”
“What about afternoons and evenings and…”
“Shut up.”
