KARACHI: A meeting, chaired by Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi, discussed various issues faced by goods transporters, including parking problems, issuance of HTV licences and insurance of vehicles.

The meeting was attended among others by the Additional IG Police Karachi Azad Khan, Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, DIG Traffic Syed Pir Muhammad Shah, Additional Commissioner-I, Ghulam Mehdi Shah, Deputy Commissioner Keamari Raja Tariq Chandio, officials from the Provincial Transport Authority, Regional Transport Authority, Excise Department, and representatives of the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance, United Goods Transport Alliance and Karachi Goods Carrier Association.

It was decided that comprehensive efforts would be made to resolve the issues. To resolve the parking issue a terminal for transporters was proposed.

DIG Traffic was directed to enforce traffic laws effectively to prevent accidents as well as traffic congestion.

It was decided that a dedicated HTV lane would be allocated for heavy vehicles from Mai Kolachi to Qayyumabad Bridge, for which lane-marking work would be started immediately so that heavy traffic can be restricted to the HTV lane with a limited speed of 30?km/h.

The meeting also discussed the issues relating to vehicle fitness and insurance for vehicles and bus passengers.

It was decided to approach the government for consideration of proposals for initiatives of insurance of vehicles and bus passengers.
