LAHORE: On the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) continued surprise inspections of public hospitals across the province, resulting in disciplinary action against hospital management over administrative lapses.
The CMIT conducted unannounced inspections of four hospitals in a single day, including the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital Jhelum and Tehsil Headquarters (THQ) hospitals in Sohawa, Gujar Khan and Kharian. The inspections were carried out by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Shoaib Mirza, who undertook late-night visits to assess facilities and patient care.
During the inspection, DHQ Hospital Jhelum was found to be suffering from serious mismanagement. X-ray machines were non-functional and X-ray films were not available, while patients lodged numerous complaints before the inspection team regarding poor facilities. On the recommendation of the CM Inspection Team, orders were issued to remove the Medical Superintendent (MS) of DHQ Hospital Jhelum from his post.
At THQ Hospital Sohawa, the inspection team expressed lack of confidence in the prevailing arrangements. The MS and other concerned officials were issued strict warnings and directed to immediately improve hospital management and services.
However, the CM Inspection Team expressed satisfaction over the administrative arrangements at THQ Hospitals Gujar Khan and Kharian, noting comparatively better facilities and management.
The provincial government has reiterated that monitoring of hospitals will continue to ensure improved healthcare services.
