Shaheen Afridi ruled out of Big Bash League with knee injury
- PCB calls him back for rehabilitation
Pakistan’s premier fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has been ruled out of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) season after sustaining a knee injury while playing for the Brisbane Heat in Australia.
Afridi informed fans through his social media channels that he has been recalled by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to undergo rehabilitation following the injury and will not feature in the remainder of the BBL campaign.
“PCB has recalled me due to injury,” Afridi said, expressing gratitude to the Brisbane Heat franchise and supporters for their “immense love and encouragement.” He added that he hoped to recover soon and “will continue to encourage the wonderful team.”

Medical assessments conducted after he felt discomfort in his knee during Brisbane Heat’s clash against the Adelaide Strikers confirmed the issue was significant enough to warrant his return home for further treatment. The 25-year-old left-arm pacer limped off the field during the match, underscoring the team’s cautious approach in managing his workload with the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 approaching early next year.
Brisbane Heat management and PCB medical staff jointly agreed on the decision to withdraw Afridi from the league to prioritise his long-term fitness and World Cup preparation.
Afridi’s absence is a setback for the Brisbane Heat’s bowling resources, reducing their pace options in the crucial stages of the tournament. His knee injury also raises questions regarding his availability for Pakistan’s short-term international schedule, though team officials remain optimistic about his rehabilitation prospects.
Pakistan will now look to manage its bowling combinations in the upcoming fixtures while monitoring Afridi’s recovery progress ahead of major commitments in early 2026.
