LAHORE: The Lahore district administration has made significant progress in resolving property disputes, thereby providing property rights and swift justice to the public.

According to the administration on Friday, the activation of the Dispute Resolution Council (DRC) has facilitated the handling of numerous applications daily, resulting in the amicable resolution of property disputes that have persisted for decades.

The assistant commissioners are hearing applications every day across all tehsils and issuing decisions based on their merits. In Tehsil Shalimar, 85 cases were heard, leading to one citizen regaining possession of their property after five decades. Similarly, in Tehsil Ravi, nine cases were addressed in a single day, resulting in six disputes being resolved through mutual consent and reconciliation. In Tehsil Wagah, administration intervention enabled a widowed woman to reclaim possession of her property after demarcation. Additionally, in Tehsil City, 12 cases were reviewed, with six cases immediately referred to the DRC. Agricultural land possession in Mouza Keer Khurd and Roora, located in the Cantonment and Sadar areas, was also restored to their rightful owners, while property owners in Nishter regained possession after the hearing of nine cases.

District Commissioner Lahore Syed Musa Raza has instructed Assistant Commissioners to enforce a strict ban on mobile phone usage during the hearings of qabza cases. All proceedings must be conducted in a formal environment with complete confidentiality, rather than in an open court. He emphasised the need to avoid irrelevant conversations and to focus solely on the legal merits of each case. He also stated that property possession should be promptly returned to applicants upon fulfilment of legal requirements, prioritising resolutions through mutual consent and reconciliation between parties. He warned that strict action would be taken against the qabza mafia and illegal occupants.
