KARACHI: A crucial meeting of the Standing Committee on Home Affairs was held at the Sindh Assembly Building, Karachi, chaired by the Committee Chairperson, Faryal Talpur. A six-point agenda was presented in the meeting, on which the IGP Sindh along with the relevant DIGs gave a point-to-point briefing. The agenda included: arrests of drug mafia members, performance of the forensic lab, investigation regarding chemically adulterated milk, cases against land mafia, the proposal for a Provincial Cyber Crime Unit, and police operations in the Katcha areas.

Addressing the meeting, Chairperson Faryal Talpur said that drugs are a curse destroying the future of our children, and no leniency will be tolerated in the strict crackdown against them. She emphasised that the zero-tolerance policy against drug dealers must continue. Speaking on the issue of land mafia, she said that land grabbing is unacceptable anywhere in Sindh.

She stressed that the committee’s recommendations and actions must strictly follow merit. Regarding the proposal for establishing a Cyber Crime Unit, she directed that if any correspondence has been initiated in this regard, it should be immediately placed before her so the matter can be taken up with the federal government.

Expressing satisfaction over the ongoing police operations in the katcha areas, she said that the DIGs of Larkana and Sukkur, along with young officers, have performed exceptionally well. She also appreciated SSP Larkana & for the encounter that resulted in the killing of the notorious dacoit Saathi Jatoi, and praised the performance of SSP City as well.

Speaking during the meeting, the Sindh Home Minister Zia-Ul-Hassan Lanjar informed that joint operations against drugs are underway across the province with the collaboration of Sindh Police, Excise, and ANF.
