ISLAMABAD: Aleema Khan, sister of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan, staged a defiant sit-in at Factory Khana on Adiala Road on Tuesday, protesting the jail administration's continued refusal to allow her to meet her brother.
Declaring she would remain there “until my meeting is granted,” Aleema was joined by MPA Meena Khan Afridi, MNA Shahid Khattak, and a host of party workers.
The sit-in persisted even after Punjab Police attempted to disperse the crowd with water, but Aleema and her supporters stood their ground.
Talking to the media, Aleema accused jail authorities of deliberately blocking her visits over the past two weeks, alleging that the government fears her sharing messages from Imran Khan with the public.
“This is not just about a family visit; this is about the rights of every citizen. Imran Khan has the right to meet his family and legal representatives,” she asserted.
Aleema went on to question the judiciary’s independence, arguing that following the 27th Amendment, courts have been “silenced,” and after the 28th Amendment, they risk becoming “hollow structures.”
Highlighting a three-member bench of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) that had ordered her meeting with Imran Khan, Aleema claimed that the directives are being blatantly ignored.
“Contempt of court was once a serious offence; today it is mocked,” she remarked.
Despite her criticisms, Aleema reaffirmed PTI’s faith in the justice system and announced plans to escalate the matter to the Supreme Court to secure her brother’s rights.
She reiterated that the sit-in would continue until her demands were met, signalling PTI’s unyielding stance on Imran Khan’s release and the broader fight for justice.
At the time of filing this report, Aleema Khan and her supporters remained steadfast at Factory Khana, refusing to disperse.
