PESHAWAR: Commissioner Inland Revenue, Peshawar Zone, Regional Tax Office (RTO) Peshawar, Dr Syed Farooq Jamil, has said that the doors of the department are always open for resolving all genuine issues of the business community and taxpayers.

He emphasised that traders play a pivotal role in strengthening the national economy, and the department will continue to extend all possible cooperation to them. However, Dr Farooq Jamil made it clear that when it comes to the enforcement of law, there can be no leniency or relaxation. He urged the business community to fully cooperate with the Inland Revenue Department in ensuring compliance with tax laws.

The commissioner informed that during a legal operation, a departmental team inspected tea packets and observed that some of them did not bear the retail price, which is a violation of tax laws. Consequently, the relevant packets were seized.

Dr Jamil clarified that no trader was harassed during this operation; the action was taken purely in accordance with legal requirements.

Responding to reports of shutter-down strikes and protest calls by some traders, Dr Farooq Jamil said,

“We are all working for the same goal — the national interest and the stability of the economy. It is better that the business community approaches us, we sit together, discuss matters, and resolve all issues within the framework of law.”

He added that the department’s policy is based on facilitation, transparency, and cooperation, and assured that the Inland Revenue Department remains fully committed to address all legitimate concerns of the business community.
