WASHINGTON: Hurricane Melissa strengthened Monday to the maximum Category 5, the US National Hurricane Center said while warning of “catastrophic flooding” in Jamaica even before the storm hits the Caribbean island nation.
“Melissa now a Category 5 hurricane,” the NHC wrote in its latest advisory.
“Destructive winds and storm surge and catastrophic flooding will worsen on Jamaica through the day and into tonight.”
