LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif chaired a special meeting to discuss proposals on how to regularize illegal housing societies in the province.

The CM said, “The housing schemes that have been built should be regularised as soon as possible according to the law, so that people could get a relief. The government departments are equally responsible for the establishment of illegal housing societies. They were established with their collusion, but only the common men who bought them got punished.”

She added, “Why did the relevant institutions turn a blind eye when illegal housing societies were being built. Money is taken from the poor people but plots are not given.” The Chief Minister directed the authorities concerned to abolish unnecessary NOCs for the registration of housing societies. She agreed to form a high-level committee for the regularization of illegal housing schemes. She also directed the authorities concerned to take measures to digitize housing sector for the first time in Punjab.

The CM said, “Housing society management system should be introduced. Housing society approval, management and transfer will be made possible online. NOC fees will also be paid online after uploading the required documents.”

Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, “Development and management will also be made possible through the housing society management system.” She considered different options and does to devise foolproof methods for the development and management of housing societies. She noted, “According to the rules and regulations, housing schemes should be considered for amnesty once.”

The Chief Minister was briefed by the relevant authorities, “Total number of housing societies in Punjab is 7905, covering an area of about 2 million kanals.” She was also apprised, “2687 housing schemes are approved, while 5118 are illegal or under process across Punjab.”

She was also briefed on LDA schemes, “Out of 707, 427 are approved, while 206 are illegal and 74 schemes are in the approval process.”
