LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday that there is no wheat crisis in the province and the government has stopped corruption in the wheat procurement process.

While speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a rural health unit in Phoolnagar on Thursday, Maryam said that she had shut the door to corruption in wheat procurement. She said the Punjab government was set to launch a historic Rs 400 billion package in the coming four months, under which each farmer would get Rs 150,000 to buy agriculture inputs like seeds and fertilizers through Kissan Card. “The interest of 130 million people of Punjab is supreme to me,” the CM said, adding: “Nawaz Sharif had been insisting on working for masses’ welfare.”

The CM said there were 300 RHCs and over 2,500 basic health units in Punjab. Each of these facilitates were being revamped and provided necessary equipment so that healthcare services could be provided to the people at their doorsteps. She also listed different initiatives like mobile health units and clinics on wheels. She added that there won’t be any shortage of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff at any of the health centre across the province.

The CM said that the government is working to modernise the healthcare system in Punjab. She disclosed that 300 new rural health units are being built and all units are being equipped with modern facilities. She said that field hospitals are being set up in all cities of Punjab to provide health facilities to people at their doorstep. She expressed her resolve to change the province of Punjab in her tenure.

Talking about inflation, she said, “Tomatoes, onions and potatoes are my responsibility.” She added she had promised to control inflation, which was fulfilled in just two months. She said the government had lowered the roti price and recalled that the onion prices were hovering around Rs300 per kg, but had dipped to Rs100 per kg in a short span of time.

Moreover, talking to elected representatives, the CM Maryam said, “We are creating a sustainable system of cleaning streets in cities and villages; I want to see every street clean.”

The CM apprised the visiting public representatives that the divisional headquarters and major cities are introducing solid waste management systems under public-private partnership. She added that the latest water supply and drainage project in Sahiwal is about to be completed.

She said, “Multan Vehari Expressway will be constructed for the convenience of people living in Multan, Jahanian, Vehari and other cities.”

Earlier, the visiting MNA/ MPAs informed the CM about public problems and development needs of their respective constituencies. Matters relating to political situation in the country were also discussed in the meeting.

MNA of Jahanian Chaudhry Iftikhar Nazir, MPA of Sahiwal Qasim Nadeem, MPA of Lahore Muhammad Shoaib Siddiqui and MPA of Sialkot Khurram Khan Virk attended the meeting.

Senator Pervaiz Rashid, Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Zeeshan Malik were also present on the occasion.
