KARACHI: President SITE Association of Industry (SAI), Abdul Rasheed while expressing deep concern over the non-drainage of rainwater from the SITE industrial area of Karachi and the accumulation of several feet of water on the roads and streets, demanded of the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab and MD SITE Ltd to ensure drainage of water from the SITE area and immediately repair the roads.

The SAI chief said that due to accumulation of rainwater supply of raw materials to industries as well as export goods’ shipping to the ports are badly affected. Due to which the delivery of export orders are likely to be delayed, therefore effective arrangements should be made for drainage of water from the SITE area on emergency basis so that the production activities can continue uninterrupted.

Abdul Rasheed said that despite the forecast of rain, no effective measures have been taken to drain water and as the lack of sanitation the drains are blocked and rain water is accumulated on the roads and streets, due to which the industrialists and workers are facing severe difficulties in reaching the factories.

The industrialists are forced to remove accumulated rainwater from the streets and roads outside the factories on their own through pumps.

SAI president questioned that if there is more than 2-feet of water standing at the gates of factories, how industrialists and workers will enter the factories? Due to non-drainage of rainwater, the roads have become dangerous and potholes have made vehicles’ passage difficult and the incidents of overturning of vehicles and electrocution have also increased.

Referring to the accident at Simmons Chowrangi, he said that a rickshaw overturned and fell into the ditch. There were women and children in the rickshaw. While the roads are falling apart and the streets are flooded, the incidents of street crime have also increased, which needs to be addressed.

Abdul Rasheed stressed Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Administrator Karachi Murtaza Wahab and MD SITE to ensure drainage of rainwater, otherwise, the supply of raw materials to the industries will be completely affected.
