KARACHI: The Karachi Port Trust handled 147,242 tonnes of cargo comprising 85,671 tonnes of import cargo and 61,571 tonnes of export cargo during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargos of 85,671 tonnes comprised of 32,183 tonnes of containerised cargo; 19,763 tonnes of bulk cargo; 7,014 tonnes of wheat; 2,617 tonnes of soy bean and 20,500 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 61,571 tonnes comprised of 56,039 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,832 tonnes of rice and 3,700 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 6,616 containers comprising of 2,248 containers of import and 4,368 containers of export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The break-up of imported containers shows 740 of 20’s and 684 of 40’s loaded while 00 of 20’s and 70 of 40’s empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 965 of 20’s and 1082 of 40’s loaded containers while 315 of 20’s and 462 of 40’s empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were ten vessels namely Genuine Venus, Pleiades Leader, M.T Lahore, Paro, Pegasus 01, Hyundai Busan, GSL Vlerie, Uranus J, Ginga Hawk and M.T Quetta carrying containers, tankers, cars and general cargo currently at the berths.

There were six ships namely Maistros, Queensland, Plelades Leader, Independent Spirit, Singapore Bridge and RU YI Song sailed out to sea during the reported period.
