LAHORE: Special committee on agriculture has decided to encourage partnership between the public-private organizations to enhance per acre yield of wheat and for introducing of new technology to revive cotton crop.

It was also decided to provide protection to the investment made by the private sector for research and development.

Decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the special committee held here on Tuesday with the Punjab Agriculture Minister Hussain Jehanian Gardezi and members of the committee including Wasif Khursheed Secretary Agriculture Punjab, Dr Asif Ali Vice Chancellor MNS University Multan, Dr Abid Mahmood Chief Executive PARB and others.

The meeting decided to finalise its recommendations at the earliest and submit to the chief minister Punjab and also to take federal government onboard for implementation.

The minister said that the government was working on various projects for promoting mechanized farming and provision of latest technology to the growers. He said all available resources would be utilized for increasing production of all the crops.

Secretary Agriculture Punjab Wasif Khursheed said our food security relies on higher wheat production while our textile industry can only survive by increasing production of cotton.

Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB) CEO Dr Abid Mahmood, Private Sector expert Sheikh Muazzam Ahmad and representatives of different private sector companies gave presentation for increasing the production, challenges faced by different crops and their possible solutions.
