KARACHI: Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance and Revenue Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh Monday urged the business community to find new markets for exports and assured them that the government will provide conducive environment to investors in the country.
He was talking to reporters after a ceremony to mark the issuance and listing of Power Holding Limited's Rs 200 billion Pakistan Energy Sukuk-II at Pakistan Stock Exchange.
He was of the view that improvement in trade and investment is only way for economic growth saying that no country can progress without trade and investment with other countries. He said that federal and provincial governments started working together for improvement of infrastructure in Karachi.
He said that the government has reduced its expenditure and provided subsidies for electricity and gas consumers and also for agriculture sector. He assured the business community that all the sales tax refunds are being cleared on priority basis. "If any sales tax refund is not cleared within the 72 hours time they can contact him," he said.
He said that the federal government has launched the second phase of Ehsaas Programme to provide financial support to the people who have been affected in COVID-19. He said that the government is taking all possible steps to reduce poverty and to improve living standard of the people.
