The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's (KP) Information Technology Board (KPIT) on Thursday announced that it is setting up Pakistan's first-ever Digital City. The project initiated by the KPK government will be located in Haripur.

“Pakistan Digital City project is a reflection of the Prime Minister Imran Khan PTI 's Digital Pakistan vision, which would be a source of employment for the youth of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. We are bringing Pakistan towards digitalization,” KPIT tweeted.

Tania Aidrus, Head of Prime Minister’s Digital Pakistan program lauded the plans and efforts of the KPIT Board in supporting the Digital Pakistan vision. “A major purpose of the Digital Pakistan vision, was to create job opportunities for the youth in the tech sector,” said Aidrus, during her visit to the construction site.

This would allow us to invite foreign tech companies to setup their businesses, she added.

Zia-ullah Bangash, Advisor to KP Chief Minister on Science and Technology said that the Pakistan Digital City initiative would be a platform where a variety of businesses and tech corporations could operate. “A number of tech companies whether related to hardware and software would set up their businesses here.”

“Pakistan Digital City is one of the biggest projects of KP in the IT sector,” said Bangash.

“KP government had declared 2020 as the year of Digital Transformation. Pakistan Digital City would provide the best environment for IT companies. International IT companies would also be invited to invest in Pakistan Digital City being established in Haripur,” the advisor tweeted.

Bangash informed that the groundbreaking of the project would commence in two months period.
