The Swiss franc slid to a three-week trough against the dollar on Thursday, weakening alongside the euro as European officials weighed postponing a bailout package for Greece. Several European Union sources said the euro zone is examining ways of holding back parts or even all of the bailout programme until after elections expected in Greece in April while still ensuring it avoids a disorderly default.
The safe-haven franc has broadly been trading in tandem with the euro in recent months after the Swiss National Bank set a cap of 1.20 per euro on September 6 to shield the economy from recession. The franc fell 0.4 percent against the dollar compared to the New York close to its weakest since January 25 and was trading at 0.9268 by 0549 GMT.The franc was flat against the euro.
