The All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) has urged the government to lift the ban on import of CNG kits and cylinders and withdraw the import duty on CNG parts. This was stated by Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha the Central Chairman All Pakistan CNG Association while talking to reporters after having meeting with the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of foreign CNG cylinder/kits maker companies from Japan, Italy, Argentina and China.
The foreign investors have shown serious concerns over government decision to ban import of CNG cylinders and kits, he said. He said that the ban is affecting the business and disturbing the whole investment amounting to billion of rupees by the CNG industry and other stakeholders. He said that CNG cylinder/kits importers and car makers are also suffering a lot from the ban.
"If the ban continues it will affect the future investment in CNG, LNG and LPG business in Pakistan, Paracha maintained. He said that only 0.3 percent gas consumption will increase per annum after lifting the ban which is nominal. Government gives a normal industrial gas connection of 10 Million Cubic Feet per Day (Mmcfd) equals to 40,000 cars daily induction.
He argued "CNG safety campaign would not be effective in the presence of this ban as it will discourage the changing of CNG parts and cylinders and will lead vehicle owners towards substandard, unsafe parts, which is very dangerous for public safety".
