The government has constituted 362 transit and mobile teams for vaccination of 118,000 children blow five years of age in Parachinar, headquarters of Kurram Agency, an official said on Tuesday. Talking to media person in Parachinar Field Staff Medical Officer, Dr Hameed Ali told that the target would be achieved during three days campaign in Parachinar and adjoining villages to eradicate polio.
He said special counters at bus stands and public places have been set-up wherein volunteers and officials of Health Department would be available for vaccination. Special focus would be given on far flung and vulnerable areas near Pak-Afghan border so that no child could be left from the vaccine.
The official said no polio case has been reported from anywhere in Kurram Agency in 2012 and two rounds of campaign in January and February were held in tribal areas as against the one at the country level in January, wherein every child was given two doses instead of one and short interval additional doses instead of National Immunisation Days.
Dr Hameed said problems in polio vaccination in border areas have been addressed and staff is being reached out to hitherto inaccessible areas so that no child could be left from the facility. "Public awareness about polio eradication is a key to overall achievement," he said and directed the officials to keep close liaison with political administration and law enforcement agencies besides holding regular meetings with local leaders as well as social workers, elders and Ulemas to take them along in order to make the campaign a success story. Different functions of polio eradication have been held in schools and colleges besides involving local Ulema and media as part of advocacy campaign.
