Former candidates of PPP in the February 2008 elections have expressed reservations over electoral alliance with ANP in the coming elections of 2013. However, the meeting compiled strategy for upcoming election and vowed to give every sacrifice for strengthening of the party and country.
A meeting of the former PPP candidates for National and Provincial Assemblies constituencies in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was held here at People's Secretariat, Zarbagh Pabbi, district Nowshera with provincial president, Senator Sardar Ali Khan in the chair on Sunday.
The defeated PPP candidates in last election from Khyber-Pakthunkhwa also attended the meeting. Prominent among those are Syed Ayub Shah, Azam Khan Afridi, Dr. Afsarul Mulk, Mian Muzafar Shah, Saleemur Rehman, Major Fida Hussain, Farooq Khan Advocate, Akbar Khan Advocate, Ehsanullah, Abdul Jabbar Advocate, Sardar Idrees, Abdur Rauf Advocate, Hamid Iqbal, and Dawar Kundi.
Speaking on the occasion, Provincial President PPP Senator Sardar Ali said that PPP is the only political party, which has always firmly stood against dictatorship as its leaders have laid down their lives for poorest of the poor but never compromised on their principles.
He said PPP is strong political and democratic force in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa like in other parts of the country; it has strong roots, loyal, organised and devoted political workers who would be mobilised to complete the cherished mission of Quaid-e-Awam Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Shaheeed, Mother of Democracy Begum Nusrat Bhutto and the Daughter of the East Shaheed Benazir Bhutto by transforming their teachings to young generation.
"Today, all the political and religious forces are making their politics according to their sweet will in a democratic atmosphere and it is our collective responsibility to work together to strengthen democracy," Senator Ali remarked.
The destiny of people linked with democracy and PPP will work day and night for strengthening democratic institutions in line with the vision of our great leaders, he maintained.
He said that Asif Ali Zardari the only President, who returned his powers back to the Parliament; thus parliamentary democracy has been restored in the country.
Senator Ali said the opinions of the senior, loyal and trusted party workers will be preferred. "All the party workers and leaders are equal to me and they are our real assets." He said that he would soon arrange their meetings with PPP Co Chairman and a committee comprising senior members of the party would be constituted to streamline affairs of upcoming election.
Matters pertaining to prevailing political situation and affairs with allied ANP also came under discussion.
