Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan said on Sunday that his party would welcome all politicians who want to join it as "it is the only platform which can bring a drastic change" in the country.
Speaking at a press conference, after his party's central executive committee (CEC) meeting, Imran branded Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as "status quo parties". "These two parties only want to save the system, which suits them only," he said.
About his election strategy, including alliances, Imran put forth a policy that can best be called a 'wait and see' policy. For the first time he did not slam shut the door on politicians who have traditional constituency seats.
"We will welcome and also remain in touch with all politicians who are keen to join PTI after its successful Lahore rally...[while] decision to award tickets in elections and to make alliance will be taken near elections", he added.
Imran said that people want to get rid of the status quo parties. "At the moment, PTI is the only hope for those who want change in the country," he said, adding that politicians were stuck up and had no options.
"Now the PTI has given hope to all such people that it [PTI] can bring a massive change. So, we welcome people from all constituencies; rather we will also approach them personally to join us", he added.
Imran said that a committee, headed by Hamid Khan, a senior party member, has been constituted to check the assets of 'big fishes' in all spheres, particularly politicians. "The committee will scrutinise the assets of these politicians and give report to Election Commission of Pakistan. We will also approach the court, if their assets' details proved wrong", he said.
Imran also hit the nail on the head when he demanded fair registration of voters. "We will not allow any rigging in the next elections...electoral rolls are wrong as not even 15 percent of voters have been registered despite Supreme Court directives. We will go to Supreme Court again, seeking its directives to form electoral rolls on the basis of Nadra record", he added.
Imran said the PTI will hold next rally in Karachi, which "will break record of the Lahore rally", held last month. He said that PML-N is the only party in Pakistan which is a brainchild of military.
Imran said that that military would not interfere in the affairs of a democratically elected government if it is not corrupt. "When the government is corrupt, the military has no option except interfering in its [government] affairs", he added.
He said that if he is voted into power after the next election, he would press for civilian supremacy over the army and the Inter-Services Intelligence agency so that he could implement his agenda.
"Unless I can implement my agenda, which means I take responsibility for everything that's happening in and outside Pakistan, it means that the army is under me; it means the ISI can do nothing unless it reports to me. Otherwise, I would resign," he added.
