Egg prices soar with advent of winter

With the advent of winter, the egg prices started soaring as profiteers wanted to fleece the customers. At present the retail price for one dozen eggs soared to Rs 90 while in summer they were being sold at Rs 60 to 65. The customers put up questions to the concerned authorities and the government that what hindered to take stern action against such profiteers, who sold daily edible items at very high prices.
Like several other edible items, the high prices causing the eggs to out of the reach of the low income groups and though the eggs were the only choice for them to maintain their body temperature and to meet other seasonal nutritional necessities in winter. "The recent increase in egg prices is attributed to increase in coldness and the prices are likely to increase again with an increase in their demand," said Fahad a shopkeeper. With more rains, the egg prices would go up again," he added. "The situation needs that the stern action must be taken against profiteers and they should be sent to jail and forfeited for charging more than the actual rates of edibles. The negligence of the concerned authorities encourages traders and retailers to charge desired rates from the customers", said Mumtaz.
"Prices of everything are rising, tomatoes, onions, fruits and even milk and eggs have become more expensive within last few weeks than ever, the shopkeepers are fleecing the public, but the concerned authorities have failed to take any action to bring down the prices," said Shumila, a housewife. Meanwhile the residents urged the concerned authorities to take action against those who were charging more profits and demanded to regulate the prices to benefit the common men.
