An Accountability Court here on Saturday handed over Ex-Principal Punjab University College of Information Technology Dr Majid Naeem, to NAB for one day on physical remand. Accused will be produced in relevant court on November 14 (tomorrow) to get extension in his physical remand.
Accused, who is presently computerisation consultant of eight boards of intermediate and secondary education in Punjab, had been arrested from Lahore when he was going back from Lahore High Court after attending the hearing of a judicial commission formed over failure of on-line system over the charges of misappropriation of 27,97,850 rupees from the Punjab University's funds through misuse of authority.
According to the details, a reference has been filed against Dr Majid Naeem, on the charges of misappropriation of 27,97,850 rupees through misuse of authority. Accused, while posted as Principal of Punjab University College of Information Technology withdrew 27,97,850 rupees from the university funds without approval of competent authority and converted the money entrusted to him for his personal use by corrupt, dishonest and illegal means. Earlier, accused had filed an application in accountability court under section 265-K PPC seeking acquittal in the reference submitting that he is innocent and clean handed. The court on March 15 had dismissed the application.
