Wind, solar, bio-gas power plants: KBP demands installation on a war footing

Kisan Board Punjab (KBP) has urged the government to take immediate steps for meeting the national energy requirements and alleged that unannounced load shedding and increasing prices of agricultural inputs and petroleum products had hit the agriculturist very hard.
KBP Central Punjab President Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmad Gujjar, President Lahore Mian Rashid Minhala and others observed these views while addressing a meeting of the growers in Wagha village here the other day. Growers from different villages situated in border areas of Lahore attended the meeting.
Speaking on this occasion KBP leaders said that now utilisation of canal water in border area is dependent on lift system using electricity and unannounced load shedding has deprived the farmers of this facility. They called upon the Federal Government to go for cheaper power generation modes instead of setting up rental-power projects. They were of the view that these rental power projects have caused irreparable loss to the national economy. They said that the Punjab government has also sold dreams of solar and bio-gas plants but did nothing in practical. They said border belt of Lahore fulfils food requirement of the citizens of this city and it is the duty of the government to facilitate the growers.
They said that projects to generate power through wind, solar and bio-gas technology should be installed on war-footing so as growers could not face load shedding and can concentrate on getting maximum yield per/acre to meet the national food requirements.
