Water inflow in four live rivers of the country has improved after third spell of monsoon rains in the upper regions of country during the past couple of days. Flood Warning Centre (FWC) told Business Recorder here on Sunday that water flow in river Indus has risen from 1,40,000 cusecs to 2,05,000 cusecs at Tarbela dam. Indus River System Authority (Irsa) is releasing 1,50,000 cusecs water downstream the Tarbela dam for hydel power generation and irrigation purposes.
River Kabul at Nowshera and river Ravi at Balloki was in low flood at 6.a m on Sunday morning. River Kabul was flowing with 48,700 cusecs and river Ravi with 40,955 cusecs water.
Flow in river Chenab at Marala near Sialkot rose to 83,691 cusecs as rainwater entered the river upstream in Occupied Kashmir.
River Jhelum was running with 28,000 cusecs water upstream Mangla dam. So far 4 MAF water has been stored in the upgraded reservoir which has the capacity to store 5.5 MAF water. Authorities are releasing only 15,000 cusecs water down stream the dam for irrigation and power generation purposes.
Water inflow in river Indus at Guddu was 1,49,300 cusecs, at Sukkur 1,01,100 cusecs and Kotri barrage 57,673. After filling all the irrigation canals of province, Sindh Irrigation engineers are releasing about 20,000 cusecs water in the Indus delta/Arabian sea.
Meanwhile about the Monsoon Meteorological features, the Met Office said that Saturday's trough of westerly wave over northern parts of the country has moved away eastwards. Weak seasonal low lies over North Balochistan.
And monsoon current is cut off temporarily. It said mainly dry weather is expected over most parts of the country. However isolated thunderstorm/rain is expected over Kashmir & Northeast Punjab. Also a few thunderstorm/rain is likely to occur over south-east Sindh.
