No clemency for lawbreakers, says Malik

Federal Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik has said that no clemency would be shown towards any lawbreaker and Police would arrest Anjum Aqeel Khan, PML-N MNA, who was taken away by his supporters from police custody. "Anjum Aqeel will be arrested soon wherever he found while a judicial inquiry has been ordered into his escape from police custody," the Minister said while talking to media after a high-level meeting in Islamabad on Saturday.
He said the MNA was not handcuffed as per his privilege, but he misused the leniency and ran away. "Lawbreakers have shown their power, now it is turn of law to prove its power and it will definitely show power and bring every lawbreaker under the purview of law," he added.
Malik asked the MNA to surrender, saying that after surrender he would be tried according to the law. "Anjum Aqeel should hand himself over to the authorities," he said.
Criticising Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz, Rehman Malik said that the PML-N should have suspended the membership of the MNA after he escaped from police custody last night, but the party had only issued statements in reaction to the incident, he added. "Everyone know well how the PML-N respected law and resorted to firing in the federal capital, which is terrorism," the minister said.
He said those at the helm of affairs in Punjab should indulge in introspection before pointing the finger at others. He said the concerned police officials had been suspended and an inquiry had been ordered against them. Malik said a case had been registered against Khan after investigations into the scam in accordance with a suo motu notice by the Supreme Court.
Responding to a question the Minister said that an investigation had been launched to probe why Anjum Aqeel was not taken to the Margalla Police Station and the arrest orders for the concerned SP had been issued. It is pertinent to note that Anjum Aqeel was wanted by Police in Rs 6 billion National Police Foundation land scam and an FIR under was registered in Shalimar Police Station on July 4 against him along with two former inspector generals of police (IGPs) Chaudhry Iftikhar Ahmed and Mian Amin, two former DIG's, Abdul Hanan and Nafees Ahmed and Khuda Bakhsh, former Deputy Director Housing of NPF.
The FIR was registered on directives of Supreme Court of Pakistan in the wake of suo motu action taken by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry on June 21, in which the apex court had ordered the Managing Director NPF to initiate action as the NPF committee had established irregularities and corruption in purchase of land. Anjum Aqeel was arrested by Shalimar Police on Friday evening, but his supporters attacked police and took him away from police custody.
