New Vice Chancellor Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Lahore Dr Sabiha Mansoor has expressed her determination to upgrade LCWU to be listed among world's top 500 universities. Chairing her first meeting of Heads of Departments (HoDs) on Friday, she disclosed a roadmap to strengthen LCWU.
She said that we could counter the menace of terrorism and extremism, which is being faced by Pakistan as well as the world, only by imparting quality education. She stressed upon the educationists that they should focus on producing moderate graduates having good moral character and flexible attitude. It is more important to develop human resources than infrastructure, she added.
Ms Sabiha said that women graduates could play an important role in the development of the economy of the country. "It is a matter of grave concern that an army of girls is graduating from the university every year but a few of them go for jobs or directly contribute to country's economy," she regretted. Stating that it would be a big challenge, the VC said that she would plan multiple strategies, including an Institute of Women's Leadership and Development, wherein women's issues would be identified and resolved. She also said curriculum would also be revised to empower graduates to work in practical fields.
She said that a vibrant middle class could only be brought up by propelling economic and social development. She said women's ratio in higher education is almost 45 percent but it is a disappointing fact that only three percent of women jump into practical life. We should focus to prepare women for their maximum participation in country's economy, she said. Professor Mansoor said there are 9,000 students on campus and the university would try to improve the quality of its products. She also disclosed plans to promote research culture among the students besides grooming their personalities.
