KWSB employee's whereabouts: SHC orders submission of progress report
Sindh High Court on Friday directed Additional Secretary (Administration) of Sindh Home Department to submit progress report on whereabouts of Karachi Water & Sewerage Board employee missing since January 2011. His wife, Ms Beena Khalid, moved SHC to seek recovery of her husband Khalid Shamim from alleged detention of law enforcement agencies.
She submitted that Khalid Shamim, 37, was picked up by LEA personnel, who had come in official vehicles, from Malir Halt area on January 6 and his whereabouts were not known since then. She submitted that the detainee was neither produced before any court nor details of cases, if any, were being provided by LEAs.
She prayed to order production of her spouse and direct police to provide details of charges, if any, against him. The SHC on June 9, 2011, had directed Sindh Home Secretary to appear in person to explain lethargic attitude and inaction on part of law enforcing agencies.
On Friday, Muhammad Riazuddin, Additional Secretary (Admin), filed progress report for Home Secretary, stating that raid was conducted at various places but culprits could not be apprehended. He stated that on credible information police party has moved to Layyah and efforts were being made to crackdown culprits Bashir & Amin. SHC division bench directed Additional Secretary Muhammad Riazuddin to submit progress report on July 19, 2011.
